THE SHEEP WHO CRIED WOLF

Once upon a time, there was a flock of sheep, who didn’t really care too much for being shepherded really, and tended to stray, doing as they well pleased.

One day, one particular rebellious little sheep strayed too far from the flock, and was spotted by a ravenous wolf, who chased and nearly devoured him. But by the skin of his chinny chin chin…he miraculously escaped, and returned to the flock screaming, “Wolf! Wolf! Wolf! Stay close to shepherd!”

With the exception of only a handful, the majority of the other sheep, too busy at play and happily grazing in the pastures, paid him little mind.

“No! No! he said, You must listen! There really is a wolf out there who nearly devoured me, and by the grace of God, I barely managed to escape!”

“Don’t be unrealistic!”, the flock retorted. “Stop disturbing our play time! There is no wolf, you silly little sheep! It’s only your sheepy little imagination! Let us be!”

From that day forward, the little sheep, and the handful of other sheep who chose to heed his warning, began to stay closer to the shepherd. But even some of them, slowly became careless again, and began to stray farther & farther from the shepherd.

Yet still, day after day, the little sheep was persistent, claiming there really was a wolf out there, much to the annoyance of the majority of the flock who just wanted to mindlessly wander at play, grazing in the pastures, who would mock and and shame him, saying “All we ever hear from you is “Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!” Now stop your nonsense and get on with the program!”

The little sheep, dismayed, continued to stay close to the shepherd, and although knowing full well, that there was a wolf at large, reluctantly kept quiet, and shaking the dust from his hooves, let them be, as not to disturb the other sheep at their stubborn insistence.

This went on for quite some sometime, until one beautiful, sunny day, seemingly out of nowhere, when all seemed perfectly quiet and peaceful, as the majority of the flock had strayed too far from the shepherd, an entire pack of ravenous wolves suddenly appeared, devouring and sparing none of the flock, with the exception of the little sheep, and the remaining few who had chose to remain close to their shepherd.

The End.
